At Lloyds Bank our aim is to ‘Help Britain Prosper’ and this is something that I believe in passionately by helping my customers in the best possible way to fulfil their lifetime dreams and ambitions.
Upon leaving school I started my working life as a Civil Servant working for the Ministry of Defence, in Taunton, in payroll and finance, from the age of 16 – 21. I then moved in to the world of estate agency for around 5 years before moving into the banking sector and securing my first role with Birmingham Midshires as a cashier soon getting promoted to financial consultant. I then had a career break for 5 years after having my twin girls.
When they started full time education I wanted to go back in to the world of banking and it was my next role that sparked my love of business banking. I started as a cashier in the Halifax with a ‘champion’ role for business banking. I really enjoyed this side of the business and realised there was a plethora of different types of businesses and business people of all ages from all different backgrounds. With this drive and passion for business banking I increased my knowledge and got promoted to the role of Business Manager for the Bank of Scotland, initially covering a regional patch but then given my own Area covering Taunton & surrounding area’s.
The role moved to Lloyds when the merger between Halifax Bank of Scotland and Lloyds Bank took place & one that I undertook for around 12 years. This role involved me being right at the heart of the local community and one that I truly enjoyed and was very successful at. I would work with all types of businesses, in all different sectors, ranging from retail to agriculture to manufacturing to the service industry and many many more. The role was varied and no 2 days were ever the same.
There is nothing more pleasing than sitting down with a client that has either come up with a new business venture, or an idea onhow they want to improve and increase their existing business and listen to their aims and ambitions, and how I could help to assist them with this. My role as a Local Business Manager was multi-faceted, seeing me help support my client’s dreams and ambitions to aid them in furthering their business goals with funding in a number of different guises, from Overdrafts to Business loans and Commercial Finance and Invoice Discounting. It also saw me opening business accounts for new businesses and also businesses switching their banking to Lloyds. I would also help them with their insurance needs and also assist them in taking payments in any form that they required, from bank transfers, to card payment systems and fully integrated EPOS systems or payments via the Web.
My current role that I have been in for the past 18 months is that of a Local Business Development Manager, this primarily is a lending role within the bank and sees me looking at larger lends than I was previously looking at in the Local Business Manager role. My role covers businesses in the Somerset area that have a turnover of less than £3 million and I look at all forms of lending solutions for their businesses. I cover the whole of Somerset and generate my business in a number of ways, including referrals from internal sources within the bank but a large part of my business now comes from external introducers. I work with a number of Mortgage and Financial Brokers throughout Somerset, as well as Accountants and Solicitors helping their customers with their financial requirements. I also attend a number of networking events in Somerset and have built up a number of fantastic connections in my time in the bank.
Everyone at Lloyds Banking Group is committed to helping their local communities and overall Helping Britain Prosper, non-more so than me, I live and breathe helping my customers in the best possible way, so if you or anyone you know needs help to build or grow their business, then I would more than happy to sit down and discuss the ways in which myself and Lloyds Banking Group can help your business.
